Marantz TT Question

I have a line on a Marantz TT 451 that looks to be in really nice shape. It also looks like a Linear tracking TT. Am I correct? It seems to be hard to google anything other then belts or stylus info for it. Would it be worth $50 if working? Thanks for the help and any info.

A picture of the turn table may help. :idea:

Google have not turn up a linear track with that model number.

Probably, if the cartridge and stylus are good. It appears to be a variation on the entry level linear trackers made by C.E.C. for various companies, notably Radio Shack. These work well and sound decent. These days $50.00 is about as good as you can do for an acceptable used turntable.

The Achilles heel of that turntable (and others like it) is the arm transport belt will start to slip as it ages, to the point where the arm won't move. Replacement belts are available online.
 
To me personally? No. But I'm just not interested in linear tracking turntables in general. If it works fine and the cartridge and stylus work okay - maybe $40?
 
I am looking at a Marantz 6110 tt on eBay. The seller says it plays well but not a high level of sound output. He thinks it’s the cartridge. Should I be concerned?

Not having a high level of sound output (versus not getting sound out of one channel or the other) doesn't seem to be much of an issue. It could be the stylus or the cartridge - but it could also be that they have it plugged into a line input without a phono pre-amp (versus plugging it into a phono input). I wouldn't let that scare me away - depending on price.

Other than the color it looks like the RS model my son uses in a second system. He told me he hears inner grove distortion around the last track of an album. Other than that all functions have been working for several years that he has had it.

I told him he should try a new stylus. When I first got it supposedly the stylus was pretty new. But it was used to play used records at a local used record store for a short time before I got it. Playing dirty old records may not have done it any favors.

If "a short time" is accurate, it may not be long enough to wear a stylus down. I mentioned a dirty stylus as a possible cause — dirty old records really crud-up a stylus. It's not dust or fluff that easily brushes off, it sticks. May need a serious cleaning. If the stylus is clean and unworn, and there's still IGD, maybe the arm isn't maintaining tangency towards the end. You can probably eyeball it, a 2° error is clearly visible — or, if there's a 'pause' function, use anything with a 90° angle as a reference. Just throwing out ideas...

It was fun reading the brochure Boreas posted. I like linear trackers, I use one — but some of the claims made me cringe, it almost promises "perfect sound forever."
