Marantz tuning string

Jailtime

Standin' on a corner
The tuning string on my 2235B is shot, the tuning wheel just turns, no pointer movement because the string is so sloppy. First, where to find a new string? I have the service manual, so I should be able to restring it (kinda like I adjusted DC offset and idle current:eek:). and I suppose that restringing will ruin the FM alignment. don't really care, as long as I can get the one classic rock station in my area.

Here is one solution. This is a quote from Merrylander (Rob)...

"If you have a Michael's or other craft store in your area, the #6 bead stringing cord makes excellent dial cord."
Hope that helps

If the cord is not worn out but is just too loose, throw a figure of 8 knot in it.
Slide the tubing that covers the hook on the end of the cord out of the way. It may take a bit of careful persuasion as it may be glued. Take a rubber band and slip it on the end of the hook and attach it around something on the right side to keep that end of the cord taught. Now take the loop of the dial cord off the hook, make a figure of eight knot AS CLOSE to the existing loop knot as you can. A couple of spring hooks or even crochet hooks can help with this, fingers are just too big.
To put the loop back on the hook, you will have to pull some slack all the way from the pulley on the tuning shaft, because that's where the tensioning spring is.
Now disconnect the rubber band, slide the tubing back into place and tune away!

One can also relocate the tension spring inside the tuning capacitor pulley to another post which will increase the tension--requiring no disassembly.
