Marantz Turntable question??????

I have a Marantz 6370Q turntable that needs a tone arm counter balance weight but B4 I try to find one I was wondering if any of you folks know if I have to find one off of another 6370Q or if one off of other Marantz turntables from the same era would fit....I also have a Marantz 6200 and the weight from it wont fit...[The hole is to small]....I was thinking maybe other 6300 series tables or maybe the 6170 or 6270Q but I have no way of knowing...If any of you people know, or if someone who has a collection of manuals with parts lists... could you please look at the part numbers for the balance weights for other 70s vintage tables and see if any of them are the same as the 6370Qs weight....any help would be appreciated :sigh: ....thanks Dave

Most any counterweight that will fit on the shaft will work. Likely as not, a transplanted counterweight may be loose on the shaft. You can solve this with silicone sealer and/or rubber bands or duct tape as filler.

You will probably lose the calibrated adjustment, so get a stylus force gauge. Once you've "dialed in" the correct value, use a dab of silicone sealer to keep the counterweight from moving on the shaft.

Cross-checking part numbers for counterweights from other turntables would be a daunting task, though highly similar Marantz models probably used the same part.

If you hit thrift stores and garage sales, you should be able to pick up several junker turntables with "donor" counterweights.

Thanks for the input...But if anybody can help with determaning if I am looking for a one table specific weight or if other marantz TT weights will fit properly...Id be very grateful.......thanks again
 
Hi Gunut. I have both the 6300 & 6370Q tables. The counterweights are not interchangeable. The ID of the the 6370Q is bigger. A 6270Q would probably be your closest match. I also have a TT-6000, no go. I guess we should be happy that they standardized the 1/2" & P-mounts. Everything else seems mfg. specific. Good luck in your search.

BTW, I think the 6300 is a much better table than the Q series. I lusted for the 6370Q for decades. Grumpy hooked me up with one. I love the display and controls, but the 6300 just sounds better. Maybe a better arm....
