Hi all

I picked up this afternoon an old Marantz 29 I think it s borned in 1972... Sound nice good tuner with gold front but I ve got 2 problems
I haven t found specs on the net (even the power!!)
and I ve got a frequency shift in FM (when I'm on 95.8 Mhz the real station frequency is 97.3 Mhz...) the problem is the same on all the scale. What can I do to simply solve this default.. :(

Thanks all

Nice pics Dom;

You seem to have a rare model according to the Marantz vintage database. It doesn't list the power but tells of it's shortwave band, etc. Here is the link:

While certainly not a high power unit it sure would seem to be a very collectable model due to it's rarety.

As far as correcting the dial calibration, here is the least intrustive method that insures that you don't screw up any of the front end alignment and tracking.

If you look at the large white pulley mounted on the main tuning capacitor you should see that is has one or two set screws that hold it onto the capacitor's shaft. First tune to a station of known frequency. Gentle loosen the setscrew(s) on the pulley trying not to cause the station to be mistuned. When you have the pulley loose on the shaft you should be able to use the front panel tuning knob to move the pointer to the correct frequency. You can then gently retighten the setscrews on the main tuning pulley. You may have to practice and try several times as the shaft tends to move when you loosen or tighten the setscrews, but you will get it in time.

Thanks lefty for your tip
;)

it's not very technical but it works I try... it s ok I loose a little at the beginning of the scale near 88 Mhz but no matter there is no station here!!!
I think the power of this marantz 29 is around 20 or 25 W rms by channel when you look at the caps and the radiator it is surelly not more... there is really nothing on the web even ben site is discrete (mine is the same than the 29 on his site) it sound really nice... little is beautiful:cool:

The 29 was sold primarly in Germany, and not totally certain but I believe it's 30 wpc. AS you probably know, this is the earliest vintage Marantz, late 60's - early 70's.

Has short wave usually, as well as AM/FM.

It's close to the 26, 27, 28 models.

I've got an old 28 and plays nicely. These models have lots of the early handcrafted work on the construction. Nice to admire!

Thanks Shains (doctor es Marantz ;) )

This one is probably german, all connections at the rear are DIN like germans did in the 60 and 70 s, it s right when you look inside you see it s well handcrafted...So I suppose this model wasn t sold in US...

Yes, the din plugs give it away as probably German. I see various amps, receivers, etc, that have the din plugs.

Most vintage RtR's have the din plugs, and are really the way to connect an RtR. Just one cable instead of a bunch of RCA jacks.

I'm pretty sure you can still get the din to RCA jack cables. (din one end, RCA on the other)
