There is much speculation out there regarding manufacturing serial numbers and champagne engraved face plates. Many experts agree that there were about 5000 marantz model 2270 stereos shipped to the USA with engraved face plates. But when it comes to Canadian units that number is different. The Canadian models got their units from a different distributor, "Electrohome" and they had way more champagne engraved 2270 faceplate receivers imported to Canada as well as Europe. Some say 10,000 Canadian models with Champagne faceplate

What research are you using to back up your statements. I have been tracking these units for years i have not heard anyone say 10,000 Canadian units anywhere. I have personally only seen a handful of "Canadian" 2270's and they do not match up with the US units at all regarding documented serial numbers. What are you basing your statements on??
 
why would a distributor apply engraved faceplates? they are not a manufacture of the product. a distributors job is to deliver the product to the retailer.

FWIW I have "Canadian" 2270 S/N 62450. Does that also not match up with US S/Ns?
 
Not even close. The US models are from 1,000-5,000. I am not going to repeat numerous posts about this subject. The "Canadian Models" just do not make sense to suddenly appear this late in the 2270 run when they stopped making the face plates around 55,000 units earlier due to higher manufacturing costs. The are many other cosmetic differences in the chassis as well. Your other number on the back that may say sxxxx is actually a more accurate number that matches up to the US models. I have tracked 88 of these engraved units to date so i know even when the silver engraved plates popped up in the production run. The "Canadian units" obviously exit, because you have one, but were the engraved face plates truly made again or did someone from Canada put several earlier faceplates on much later chassis on the 2270?
