Marantz WC-1U & WC-1 wood cabinet photo/specs

This version of the WC-1(U) has an adjustable bottom, which enables it to fit a variety of tuners and amps. The regular version has a fixed bottom. Since it's symmetrical the dimensions shown are of one side.

This particualr version is not walnut. I think it's teak.

Great pictures Carl! I thought there is a version of the WC-1 that has a smaller "vent" on the top. The larger vent works well for the amps. I've got one on my 510M.

Your 510M looks great! The regular full wrap WC-1's vent is a bit smaller. The WC-1U has the bigger vent and adjustable bottom.
 
Thanks Carl! I think I've got the smaller vent (regular WC-1) on my 150. I'll have to get a flashlight and look inside the rack. There are too many wires to disconnect to remove the 150 to look and maybe take a pic.

Here's a pic of my rack of vintage Marantz components. All of them have a wood case. I'd like to get a full wrap case for the 5025B cassette player. I don't like the three piece case.

Thanks for the dimensions Onepixel, I just picked up a 2220 just so I could build one of these cases, or perhaps two as I just picked up a 5220 also.
 
Just found this thread after identifying that the case I need for my Model 20 tuner is a WC-1 and doing a google search.

I am communicating with merrylander about building me a case, probably out of cherry.

I have one question- since I've never seen one of these cases in the flesh, I am unclear how it would look and work with the screw holes in the faceplate of my tuner. Would these be covered up, or used to affix the faceplate to the case?

I doubt they would be used to affix the faceplate to the case. I'm not 100% sure what those holes are for. Here is a vintage pic, hard to tell.

Big vent

The only thing i do not like about this case is the top vent is so big I would prefer to have more wood showing on the top, not all components going in this case need the air.
 
Kudos to Onepixel for this post. I was pointed toward it some weeks ago in a plea for just such information. It would form the nucleus of a great "cabinet sticky".
 
I have the WC-1U the adjustable back model for my 510M which fits fine but find that the it is not the most secure plus brutally difficult to install and remove. Last time I removed it the bottom of the cabinet separated from the rest of it so I just put it away for a while until I can glue it back properly. Since then I have left my 510M "business casual" instead of the more formal wood cabinet look.
Does anybody know if the regular non-adjustable WC-1 cabinet with the fixed back will fit the 510M and be able to secure the back legs without custom drilling new holes?
 
My understanding is that the WC-1 has an insufficiently sized vent to safely use it with the 510M and that's what led to the WC-7, which differs in having a larger vent. Perhaps somebody will correct me.
 
I have the WC-1 full wrap cabinet with a smaller vent on my 4140. I'll take pics and dimensions once the holiday craziness slows down.

My 4140 came from Canada and it has a rare version of the WC-1 wood cabinet that required the removal of the metal cover in order for it to slide in. The vent is quite large although not as large as the WC-1U. There are four individual screw holes that mount to the 4140 making it very secure. For the record there was a new-in-box WC-7 on Ebay a couple of weeks ago. It was the first one I ever saw and but ended up going for much more than I was willing to spend for it.
 
Here are the photos and specs for the regular full wrap WC-1. Hope you guys can understand my measuremets. My drafting skills are mediocre at best so if I left anything out or you have any questions let me know.

The exterior measurements for the WC-1 and WC-1U are identical. Where they differ I added info.

The biggest difference is the bottom. The WC-1U is a generic case that has the adjustable bar and will fit a number of amps and tuners. The tuner/amp sits loose in the case, no screw attachments. The whole thing sits on the tuner/amps own feet. You will need the taller feet or mount the shorter feet on the case itself.

The WC-1 is from my 4140 quad and the screw holes/measurements aligned up to that particualr amp. It doesn't match up to my 125 tuner. But can be modified to do so. The big rectangular hole on the bottome is for mounting the SQA quad adapter.
