Mark Knopfler-Kill to Get Crimson

Any AKers out there that like this album? I like to listen to a few songs from an album before I buy it, but I can't find anything from Knopfler's newest. I do like Dire Straits (and Rush, Zep, SRV, Hendrix, etc.) to give you an idea of my tastes. The little clips from Amazon didn't have enough to tell me if Knopfler still has that Stratocaster sound. So is it a :thmbsp: or :thumbsdn:

I don't have this one yet, but for me, if Mark Knopfler's on it, I buy it. One of a handfull of artists I can say that about. Writing, playing, producing - I always like what he's doing.

I have this album. The production, sound, quality of pressing, etc. is all top rate, as well as the musicianship, which is to be expected of anything Knopfler is involved with. It does not however sound much like a Dire Straits album. It has a more subdued and accoustic sound, again top notch stuff, just be forewarned in case you are expecting a full on DS sound.

Maicobmw has it nailed. He is one of the few who care about how his music is mastered. It's not straight up R&R but very good music. I listen to his solo albums more than I do the DS albums. Even though I really like DS.

I have most of his work and my favorite is Screenplaying. Be forewarned you have to like a mixed bag of music to enjoy that album. Shangra-La is outstanding both sonically and musically.

A lot of Knopfler's solo music has more of a folk/easy jazz-ish feel, similar in some ways to the first DS album. I like all of it - Knopfler is one of the best musicians of the past 50 years, IMHO.

Just like in the DS days, at least one song per album features his nickel-plated 1936 14-fret National Style O resonator (the guitar from the Brothers in Arms cover, as well as at least two DS compilations). He's isn't playing a banjo on songs like "Romeo and Juliet" - it's that National.

I bought Kill to Get Crimson when it first came out. I think I've listened to it only a handful of times. I enjoyed Mark when he played with Dire Straits. Not so much so on his solo efforts.

It's a subdued, reflective feel. As others have mentioned, it isn't "Dire Straits Revisited". I like it OK, but was disappointed.

I have it on vinyl, and it is beautifully pressed and packaged.
