Martin Logan Aerius: $60????

Stumbled across a garage sale where an owner was offering a pair of Martin Logan 'Aerius' for sixty bucks. The problem is some water damage to the cabinet, either from a damp basement or other incident, loose panel covers and generally not in the greatest condition. I'm assured they're in working order, and the owner offered to demo the pair to prove function.

Deal, or No Deal?

PS: I already own a pair of DQ10's in excellent condition, so I'm not in any real need, and don't know if these would be an improvement in any way. If not a real improvement, I'd rather put the $60 toward shipping a new amplifier.

Your thoughts?

I'd be on that like stink on sh.... Well, you get the idea. :D It would fun even to experience them and, if not satisfied, I'm sure they could be moved on to someone else without any loss of funds. They sure look cool! (I googled them)

If these are the ones I'm thinking of, they were $2300/pr brand new but do need an amp that can handle dipping below 2-ohm at times.

I would say they're more than worth it, if even for parts alone. If the cabs are really in that bad of shape, but all of the drivers function, parting them out could mean nice profits for you.

How could you go wrong for $60 especially for what they went for new? It would be a fun rebuild project and even more funning reaping the benefits if you resell them.

Having owned ML in the past (Requests, SL3, etc) I'd keep your Dahlquists and put the $60 toward shipping a new amplifier.

Best,

Paul :thmbsp:

They dissapear anyway when you listen to them in a dark room, they are nothing like the Daul's , $60 is rude to have walked away, I would tell you they are not for sale any longer if you came back and said, I've thought about it, sorry, I would, I know your a great guy and all, if I had offer you the DQ-10's for $30 and you went nah, I would have felt the same way.

Have you ever seen an angry cat? Brad
*growl*

I'm not sure what that post added other than personal axe-grinding amidst the grammatical train wreck.

Getting back to the subject of this thread, hint-hint, did you go back and pick them up? I personally have never seen or heard any Martin-Logan products and probably would have bought them just for the chance. I did that with a Klipsch Heresy orphan that I found at the flea market for $15 it was worth seeing what people were referring to when they described the Heresies. I'm still waiting to find its mate, but am so far unsuccessful.

Sorry BilltheCat and Brad, no disrespect meant personaly, I was just venting a frustration and didn't say it in the correct manner, my bad! Replacement woofers in the $150 each range, panel's $600 (approx) both are drop in and hook up.

Craig, glad you clarified. I wasn't sure what to make of your reply. It was rather 'disjointed' and didn't address the question. Thanks for the info.
