Martin Logan CLX

Tomorrow at work we get the new Martin Logan CLX's to play with for our open house. I guess Martin Logan has Perfected a Full Range Electrostatic speaker. I still don't think it will replace the Statement E2x. lol But it should be the next best thing with a better price of $20,000 rather than the E2 which was 120,000.

IME, the old CLS would out-perform the Monoliths and Statements, as far as coherency and transient response was concerned. Just something astoundingly compelling about a TRULY FULL RANGE all-planar system.

Of course, you have to sit JUST THERE (no flexibility on placement/seating- there's ONE place where they sound great), but boy, when you're in that little sweet spot, it's MAGIC...

Nice to see they've wised up and decided to start making bigger speakers again. I was sorely disappointed with the "downsizing" of most ML speakers... the replacement models, IMHO, just didn't perform up to the level of the larger units they replaced.

If they had done this a few years ago, we might not have dumped them (in favor of Tannoy Prestige)...

I agree completely! I'm in the process of refurbishing a CLS pair. I'm actually integrating them with subwoofers and super-tweeters (an array of Hi-Vi Research R2E-A ribbons) to let the CLS do what it does best, and see if I can widen the sweet spot a bit. It won't be all planar, but I think I can live with the compromise.
