Martin Logan SL3 Speakers

Hi,

I have come across a pair of, apparently new condition, Martin Logan SL3 speakers for $1700 and would really appreciate any input on them from someone who has heard them? I guess more importantly, I would need to know if my Sansui AU 9500 could drive them?

From what I've read about the Martin Logan SL3 is that they have the potential to sound amazing, but are demanding of the amplifier. I also heard that the panels are expensive to replace.

Again, any advice would be appreciated as these are the first "expensive" for my budget speakers that I would have purchased.

I'm not familiar with either of those, but seeing as you haven't received any responses, I figured I'd pitch in with some minimal advice. These speakers could be over 20 years old, so even if they appear new it's possible that they might need some repair. The price is probably on the high side unless they work 100%. Do some very careful listening before you close the deal.

Regarding whether your Sansui will work with them, that I can't answer, but if I was looking at purchasing a set of ESLs, I'd probably go for a separate power amp rather than an integrated.
 
Maybe do a search here on the forum for ML Sequel II and that should put you pretty much in the ball park with the SL3s.
 
I had the SL-3 for many years and the low impedance of the panel is in the very high frequency end where less drive is needed. I cannot comment on the Sansui match up. I drove mine with a Carver PM-1.5 which could tolerate almost anything load wise.
 
Thank you all for the information provided, very much appreciated. I will do some more research on the forum to see if I can find anymore information. @wallacefl, are you implying that they should need much power? Also, what was your experience with them, did you like them?
 
I would agree that the price is a bit high based upon what I've seen other used ML's go for. The panels likely need either minimal attention or in a worst-case scenario, full replacement. If they need full replacement, the cost simply doesn't make sense unless you can get them for a bargain-basement price.
