Maverick D1+

I've had a Maverick D1 since 2010 running nonstop. Works great. Decided to spend some money and upgrade to D1+. I wanted the volume control and have tubes and opamps. The D1+ has upgraded USB and DAC chips.

I bought the bare bones unit. Took 1 week from China. DHL delivered it on Sunday afternoon.

I was surprised to see it had a stock tube and 3 opamps loaded. 2 X NS LF353N and 1 OPA2604.
I was expecting 2 opamp.

The opamp on the right side is for the headphone. I never use headphones and the opamp can be removed and the tube works.

There are 2 opamps between the DAC chips and Tube. I removed the stock opamps and replaced with Sparkos and OPA627. I've switched the 2 around and it doesn't seem to make a difference. So there is an extra opamp that I was not expecting.

I sent email to Maverick asking which opamp is for the tube.

Sounds great. I would recommend the DAC.

Volume control and supposedly 2 opmps. The D2 you are required to get 3 opamps.
Price $30 less. The idea was easy upgrade.
The barebones unit came with stock tube and 3 opamps. So it was ready to go and sound great without upgraded tube or opamps.

Did you get any order updates or tracking info for yours?

I ordered a week ago and haven’t heard anything.

I got these tubes from Turkey today and I ordered them on Monday.

I got a DHL tracking number. Can't remember how the tracking number was sent to me. It took a week to get here. DHL delivered it on a Sunday.

The primary op amp for the tube section is right next to the tube. I had problems with the taller Sparkos - it heated up and dribbled whatever they use for filler material, all over the board. No apparent effect except for some corrosion on the pins, and sound quality is still excellent after popping the original OPA624's back in.

Been enjoying my D1+ for years now. Pretty much bulletproof. I actually prefer the sound from the USB connection to optical and coaxial, and damn the bit rate, eh. ;-}

PS - I upgraded from the D1 to the D1+ just for the Tenor chipset. Passed on the D2 as I use the analog section of the D1+ for my turntable with an external stage. Makes a great little tube buffer that way.

I will definitely be taking a Dremel to the enclosure cover, what a horrid design.

Running a Tesla windmill getter tube right now in it and I must say I’m not getting the top end fizziness I’ve read about. Playing flacs into a 299A then crites modded Chorus IIs.

Still have CBS 5670, and s Raytheon 5670 to try.

I got the Maverick D1+ DAC today. After prying open the case, I noticed there was a third op amp in a socket, which I replaced with another dual OPA627. I thought there was only supposed to be 2 op amps in this unit. I also put a 6386 tube in but had to remove the tube retainer wire because of the size of the glass. Then I switched the jumpers disabling the volume control to the line output. I had to use a hammer to get the case back on and cut my finger on the sharp edge of the metal casing because it was so hard to get on and off! But now it’s working fine and the sound is good. I like the built in DAC and the sound is kind of nicely spread and warm, and has some tube sparkle which I like. Running my Schiit Bifrost 2/64 into the line in results in more nuanced sound, but I noticed the level is bit lower than the DAC output.
