Max cartridge output for MC input

Hello,

My current system has 2 turntables, plugged into a Harman-Kardon A402's two MM phono inputs. One table has an Ortofon OM cartridge with a 4mV output; the other has a Stanton 681 eee: moving iron, 0.7mV output. Right now both work fine (naturally, I have to crank up the volume when using the Stanton), but I'm looking for a preamp upgrade.

Most preamps endowed with 2 phono inputs have 1 MM and 1 MC. I was wondering if the Stanton would be overpowered in an MC. It seems to sit really betwen MC and MM, with regards to output!

As a side note, my venture in the turntable world is likely to go further, so I like the option of getting an actual MC in the future.

Thanks for the correction!

I just realized that some carts were specced at 5cm/sec, others at 1cm/sec. Not that I understant much about this, but the math works!
total distance the stylus has traveled in 1 second. A phono cartridge is actually a velocity device. higher the velocity, the higher the output voltage
 
It really depends on the capability of your phono preamp's circuits. They vary widely. A Benz Micro Wood SM cartridge of mine (0.8 mV) will overload my Fosgate phono preamp when used with a 1:10 step-up transformer, but the same cartridge plays fine with a Luxman integrated even with a 1:20 step-up.

I fell like I'll regret for a long time not doing any physics past high school!

there's something else in those specs a bit confusing.........makes ZERO difference, but still. It lists DC resistance at 13Kohms. Nope, that's impedance of the coils to AC current. They just didn't list at what frequency of AC it was measured. AT for example lists impedance @1khz normally. With the inductance listed in the specs, that 13K might be at 1Khz.
