Maximus 2.2

Can anyone I.D. this speaker? Got these at a secondhand store outside an Army base. It's a 2-way with a tweeter L-pad, 6.5" woofer, 4" tweeter. Removable grill. 1/2" thick particle board cabinet with wood veneer. One speaker has a serial number. The silver sticker on the front baffle reads "Maximus 2.2". They both play good. The bass is impressive, as well as the highs. Both L-pads work. No real damage to the cabinets, just scuffs & wear. They'll clean up well. The grills are in great shape, too. I'm sure they'll need caps but they sound great. They look like Ampex speakers from the `60's I used to own. The cones are paper with no damage. The cloth surround on the woofers are not torn, but one has what looks like a little mold. The weigh 11 lbs. each. $20 for this score. Store owner would not go lower.

MMM some older "obscure" store's private label perhaps?? Hope you can find some info on them! I have some small walnut cabs I picked-up at a garage sale for $1 once...I was going to pass them by, then I saw "yellow/white" shinning thru the grill weave. Bought them, took the backs off, and "Yes" Foster FE 167 "FR" 5.25" drivers..:) The name on the speakers was "Munce Stereo Pak"...No one has ever heard of them..look about the same vintage as yours.

Guts of the Maximus 2.2

No info anywhere inside. Four sides of cabinet are wood. The front & rear baffles are particle board; pre MDF. Cabinets are filled with fiberglass. Sound good but I'm afraid to turn them up for fear of burning up a tweeter.
