MB Quart model 2000 large towers...anyone have some info?

I can't find ANY reviews on this model, the MB Quart 2000....a large pair of tower speakers. I know this company made some really good stuff a while ago.

The little info I can find is that they contain 2x 10" woofers, 2x 5" mids and a 1" titanium dome tweet setup in the "D'Appolito configuration" (MTM). Double rear ported, 4 ohm and Bi-Wire/Bi-Amp able. They measure 48" high / 11'' wide / 14" deep and they weigh about 100 lbs each.

Is there anyone that has heard them, owns them or knows anything else about them? Even if it was a sibling of this model, I'm interested.

Yeah, these were made before Rockford acquired MB Quart.

No, this thread is years old and the same pair that I started this for are back up for sale local to me. Weird timing. I know the guy selling them here also, I just did some bartering with him recently. Not really in the market for them now, but I would like to go back and audition the pair in town.

Starting in 1988 I spent 17 years with a large electronics chain in Canada. Many lines came and went, MB Quart being one of them. Their home speakers were dismally poor sellers but the car stuff sold extremely well.

There were no rookie home audio sales people at my location but I don't remember anyone ever selling a pair. We collectively felt they were neutral beyond belief and so sterile they sounded thin. I don't remember a pair with dual woofers but there were floor standers and bookshelves on hand.

I do not like pigeonholing loudspeakers but MB Quart, at least back then, might have been better suited to classical music. They sure didn't do much with rock and pop. I think a good speaker should be suitable for any genre but that's just my opinion. I found it impossible to justify MB Quart's price, as did we all, when there were so many other speakers available for us to sell that had a much more substantial sound to them.

But, I guess they're an acquired taste I've yet to acquire.

They never took off because if I recall the retail price was $3000-$4000. And for that there were many modern options. I’ve had this pair since 1994, I’ve had other speakers (too many to mention) that have come and gone but I always came back to these. I’ve run Krell class A mono blocks on them, McIntosh tubes, Adcom, and a host of other amplifiers. I simply love them. Speakers are like colors to me, not many wrong choices just many tastes differences. If you ever get a chance to listen to a vintage pair of 2000s (early 90’s) I be interested in your thoughts.

Sorry to jump in late here. Quick story...back in college (1990 -1995 ish) I worked at a small audio / video store where we sold both MB Quart home and car audio. The home line was no where near as widely known as the car line. If memory serves, they had two model lineups back in the early 90's, a more standard line with three models simply called Quart One (two way bookshelf), Two (two way small floor) or Three (two way, three driver floor) and then they had a Quart "S" line (1000 and 2000). We carried the "standard" line and sold a ton - they sounded fantastic (for the price point) and once folks heard them, they loved them. The standard line components were very nice but the cabinets were on the cheap side.

We never actually carried the "S" line in our stores BUT when MB Quart had a "once in a lifetime accommodation discount" (better than cost) for sales people, my buddies were all over them. At that time I personally purchased the 1000's in cherry and was instantly razzed by my buddies for not going for the 2000's...but hey at the time, I saved a couple hundred bucks. My 1000's arrived, beautiful to the eye but thin to the ear - I was disappointed, I made a mistake. I don't think distribution was wide spread in the US for the S line so many of the pairs (if you can find one) were either a sales rep sample or a salesperson's personal purchase back in the day. I recently found a pair near my home a couple of months ago (in white) and I jumped on them. Best choice I have made in a long time. If it helps, almost all of my buddies who purchased the 2000's back in the day still own them. BTW - the One's are also very nice for the money, I have a pair of those also...

Same story as Lilwaun71 except I bought the 2000s on accommodation. My budget back then meant I had to get them in black instead of cherry but whatevs. I still have them and still love them. I also have a pair of 390 MCS that are the 8" woofer & tweeter from the 2000s. I've previously owned a pair of 390s, not the MCS version that were a 3-way with a 10" woofer, 4" mid, and the same tweeter. I sold those to a buddy of mine who still loves them. I've also owned the bottom of the lineup from the early 90s. Quart 1, 2, and 3. I used to really enjoy the sound of the Quart 3 when I sold them but when I had them at home I was seriously underwhelmed.

The 2000s sound pretty killer to my ears still. I have 2 modified Carver m1.0t amps and have run them bridged into the 2000s. That's almost 1000wpc and they really sing! The lights dim in the room on bass peaks. Honestly way too loud like that but sometimes you just have to go for it. The 390MCS are a strong contender for sound quality though. They are probably a better fit in this room than the 2000s.

For a point of sound quality reference, my front 3 HT speakers are Focal 1000IWLCR6. I really liked the sound of the Focal Sopra 2s but they are WAY outta my price range. My rolled off hearing prefers bright speakers I guess.

Forgot to mention, they have 2 8" woofers, not 10" woofers. Each one is in a separate enclosure so tuned differently from each other.
