MC 2100 Help

A friend of mine recently purchased his first McIntosh, a MC 2100 and he’s having some volume problems with low frequencies out of the left channel of his Altec Valencia’s. We tried another pre-amp, swapping left and right speakers, and a different RCA cable going to the 2100 from the Pre-amp. And still no luck. His system worked great with my MC 250 hooked up and we just can’t figure it out. The weird part is the high frequency appears to sounds ok. Any final suggestions before it’s off to Mr. Dewick? Thank you all in advanced, Scott.

Did you swap speaker outputs?

We tried swapping speaker outputs. Problem moved to the other speaker. The previous owner told him he cleaned out the pots and mono switch, I wonder if something got knocked off in there. :scratch2: Thank you, Scott

Don't know why exactly the bass would be low in one channel but the usual process in those older amps is to change out all of the 'lytic caps on the "preamp" board and the driver boards. Just a few dollars for the caps.
