I currently run a setup with a refurbished Sansui AU-777b and two sets of speakers—one in the kitchen and one in the living room. I can control both sets of speakers with a switch on my amp. It all works flawlessly, and I'm really happy with it, but you know how it is... I've been looking to try out a McIntosh MC-2105 paired with a C-28 preamp. And now I’ve found them; they will need some work, but this might be my next setup. Then I realized that this setup might not be able to handle two sets of speakers. Am I right? If so, are there any other McIntosh systems from the same era that can handle this? Will I never be able to have a vintage McIntosh with this setup?

The MC2105 will have no problem driving two pair of 8 ohm speakers. Simply connect the two pairs in parallel at the 4 ohm taps of the amplifier. If the ability to switch between a single pair or run both simultaneously is desired, add an SCR2 speaker switching relay control box. Another advantage is that it also has relay controlled power outlets for switching the power amplifier on/off.
The 2105 should do it no problem, presuming they're not all 4 ohm speakers and you run them all at the same time - that would run the 2105 a bit hard.
The C28 has a speaker A/B switch, but you need a speaker control relay to take advantage of that feature. The McIntosh SCR-2 is the one that matches the C28, but one could build one up rather easily.
