MC 275 adivce

I currently own an mc275 IV and was wanting to purchase another mc275 and run them mono. If i purchase new it would be the 275 V, would there be any problems by running these two models together. Are these not the same amps, with the only difference being that the V has different speaker connections (binding post).

Hello Carson.

I have a new Mc275 (V)....~6 months old. Are you wanting to use these mono with your Belles? Not sure of the sonic difference between IV and V.

Anyway......I'm thinking of selling mine...mint....Let me know if you are interested in a used one.

I have an Mc252 and I think I want a second one.

There's probably very little difference sonically (if any) though I'd defer to whatever Ron-C has to say. But what impresses me most about your question is it reveals that for an audiophile, you certainly aren't very anal!! You don't know how lucky (and unusual) you are!:yes:
 
I doubt if there is any difference between the IV and V sonically, but you might find you want matching cosmetics...the tube cage is different between the Mk IV and V (if you use the tube cage this might be important) - also the layout of the inputs is different so the units won't look the same as each other....all good reasons to save yourself some money and buy a used Mk IV rather than a new Mk V !:D
 
Ron-C posted a comment awhile back ago on the new 275A or aka 275V versions. His comment stated:

Anyone know what RHOS stands for and is it something previous versions did not incorporate? The RHOS has thrown me since I read his statement.

RHOS: Really High Output to Speakers??
RHOS: Ron Has One System??
RHOS: Ron-Hinton Operating System??
RHOS: Requires Hands On Switch??
RHOS: Ron Had One Suzuki?? (M/C that is).

I am now looking at the MC252 the sales guy said it wasn't a good amp? Your thoughts?

I'm sure he meant RoHS, which stands for restriction of hazardous substances. Complying usually means using different solder types, etc. that minimize the use of lead, cadmium, mercury, etc. It's a European Union directive for products to be sold there.

I had the same dilemma when upgrading to dual amplifier configuration. I decided to risk it and add version V, only to upgrade my IV to V later. Turns out there are quite few differences between the two. Besides, with V it is so much easier to deal with speaker cables.
 
Did you run the IV and V together? Any sonic differences? I assume there wouldn't be. Same amp, only difference is cosmetics?
 
I did, but I could not compare them correctly as I was using different speaker cables. In my case they did sound different, though there is no way to tell whether it was due to different cables or difference in sound.
 
I have a IV and a V that I run together. Can't hear any diff.
The thing that bugs me the most is that on the V the McIntosh logo has a dull finish rather than the bright finish on the IV

If that's the case, I'll mention several options, but first, compare the location of the "rivet" holes between the IV and V. If similiar, audioclassics has a 275 amp logo for $40 (probably a pre-V version). If you don't care for that approach, they pop up now and then on eBay.:thmbsp:
