Mc 502

I picked up my first McIntosh this afternoon and installed it about 30 min. ago.

Clean as a pin.:thmbsp:

It replaced an Adcom GFA-545II, which is 100 WPC and a fine amp in it's own right. How can this little 50 WPC amp have such tremendous bass and punch? Speakers are freshly capped Klipsch KG4.

Needless to say, I'm happy.:music:

It needs one speaker indicator lamp replaced, and some deoxit on the controls.

I also picked up a cherry MX 117 for Joncan. Thanks John, I couldn't have done it without ya. Thanks also go to CarlV and ron-c for their advice.

That's great, I am so glad that worked out one way or another. Everybody gets nice gear out of it. Just wait until you get used to the lack of listening fatigue and then go back to the Adcom. Better yet, play some Kamelot. :)

i am glad someome gave a home to one of the thin line mc gear..one of the better values in Mcgear?

I had the whole slim-line setup, C504, MC502 and MR500. Man what great sounding system. It's amazing what 50 watts of Mac power will do for you. I wish I still had that system, sure was alot easier on the back. I did keep the C504 pre, and use it in a second system. Sounds as good as my C33, just without all the bells and whistles.

When Ken posted he was interested in the gear, but could not swing the entire purchase, I was hoping he wanted the preamp and I could get the amp. The slimline amps are wonderful. They sound like the larger ones with meters except they don't have the meters :). They are also a bargain as many people want the meters.

I am looking forward to hearing the MX117 on Friday at the Southern AK Fest. The phono preamp on is rumored to be one of McIntosh's best SS phono preamps.

Glad I could help!

John

John, here are a couple of pics of your MX 117. One bulb is gone on the left of the tone controls. All indicator lamps work. The meter reads strong, without an antenna. Nice piece.

Nice stuff guys :thmbsp: The only problem I had when I got my one and only Mc.piece, was wanting more of it. Someday

one word - mcintosh ! I have two running as monoblocks with a c27, they are wicked :-) enjoy !

How they sound monoblocked vs. one in stereo mode? Does the extra 50w make a noticeable difference?

I found the amps went up several notches in performance. without sounding too cliched the bass has much more impact, and the soundstage definitely widens out. dynamically there is an improvement as well, but then there is three times as much power available to each side now. I think the music breathes more easily. in stereo mode it was relatively easy to power guard them, I've not seen the lights flicker yet.
