No, it will not work.
1) The Pluto is MM ONLY compatible.
2) The Orbit's tonearm is not a match for the DL-103.
Few MC carts are high in compliance, and would be a match for the Orbit. There were a few made for P-mount turntables, but then you'd have to use an adapter and then it would likely be too heavy for the Orbit's counterweight to balance it. Stick with MM carts only for the Orbit and avoid the hassle.

so i would like to put a denon dl 103 on a uturn with the built in pluto pre, going to a jvc receiver. thoughts? and ultimately, would this work? bear with me kind of a noob still.

yes i was looking at the ortofon 2m red (of course) and came across reading about the denon carts and became interested in hearing about thier clean sterile sound especially the dl 110. perhaps try that one instead of the 103?

perhaps i could bypass the pluto and use an emotiva xps 1. but yall are right, the tonearm is the most important
Robbyb along with posting this thread I'd be contacting U-Turn customer service for cartridge recommendation advice. BY all accounts they have done their homework and wont steer you wrong. You will be limited by the Orbit tonearm as to your choices, some of the Denon cartridges might work very well with other tonearms but be a poor match for the Orbit tonearm.
The DL110 is higher compliance, so it would be a better match with your tonearm. The DL103 would be a total 'tail wagging the dog' scenario due to its extremely low compliance.

The DL-110 cartridge is going to come with a thin metal "weight plate". I can't say for sure as I've never set up a cartridge on a U-Turn but I would think that you are going to want to use the weight plate when you mount the 110. I've heard that the folks at U-Turn are friendly and ready to help. I'd definitely give them a call and ask them about mounting the 110.

i just emailed them... would a down force scale work as well? i got one to have solely for making sure the correct weight is applied to the stylus

You'll need some way of measuring VTF, as the Orbit doesn't have a dial on the counterweight. And a protractor to correctly align it in the headshell.
If this is your first time setting up a cartridge be very careful, as the Denon is expansive and the stylus is non replaceable. I believe it would be a good idea to take the stock cartridge off and go through the process of setting that up, for practice.

so here it is.. ive listened to a few records on it, and i have to say im very impressed with the sound. build quality is lacking a bit in some areas like the plastic headshell, platter spindle, and tone arm pivot, but its not really noticeable when youre not touching it. the thing just looks plain awesome, like the color and the clear platter, just aesthetically pleasing.
i still need to install the plate that came with the denon dl 110. the tracking force is just at 1.7 g with the counterweight all the way forward. ill get to that later, busy listening.

You can pick up a used Denon DL303 for next to nothing. Get a nice shibata tip placed on it and you'll get amazing sound for the price. The DL303 is a high compliance cart using light weight samarium cobalt magnets. Not many MC's like it. It will track at as little as 1.2g
If it's the DL103 sound you're after, take a look at the DL301 Mk2. Think of it as a DL103 with higher compliance and a better alloy body with less resonance than the 103's cheap plastic body
