Currently running a Signet TK3Ea on my 1600 MK2 table. Though I don't have any fault with it, thinking of moving to a LOMC cart. Have a budget of around $300. Been looking at a Ortofon Quintet Red in that price range. Had many OM series Ortofons over the years & liked them. Or would I be better served keeping the Signet & upgrading the stylus? Thoughts?

I like the Signet better than I do many MC options, and a ATN-120E stylus is a nice upgrade for that Signet. I own a Signet TK5Ea, my favorite Audio-Technica cartridge ever.

The AT OC9ML/II is a great sounding cartridge that can sometimes be found on the gray market for around $300. It’s a little higher compliance than would be ideal for the Technics arm, but I know that many people use them on their Technics turntables. The KAB fluid damper is also compatible with your SL-1600MK2, and it can improve compatibility with higher or lower than ideal compliance cartridges.
