MC knob for my 2105

Hello everyone!

I'm wondering if it's possible to use these knobs on an MC 2105. I recently acquired some newer MAC equipment, and the 2105 appears to look "different" now.
Thanks!

I have seen a couple examples of the 2105 Amps where this was done to match newer mac gear.

I would think the knobs you seek are not hard to acquire here in the USA. McIntosh themselves likely has them as well as Audio Classics.

Besides a suitable similar diameter, the most important will be a Knob that correctly fits the Pot Shafts. You of course need a total of 5 Knobs. What are the 2105 knob's diameter, 1-1/4", or 31mm-32mm?

I would not entertain a trade, definitely keep the originals.

There was a number of times over a 45 year period where I removed all knobs on my two 2105 Amps, but to ask myself today about the Pot Shaft Type(s) used, that weren't all the Pot Shafts D-Shaped?

The problem is, acquiring knobs that would be compatible, and I would likely say Audio Classics, and somebody there would likely know what knobs could be used? And if they can be bought, hopefully new, how much? Again, you'll need 5 Knobs. Very expensive to say the least. 5 knobs, maybe $250USD and up, dependent upon new, used, their condition, and their rarity.

There's so many countless Knobs they produced over the many decades.

Perhaps a search later I'll try, and see what I can dig up for you as to what knobs perhaps?

My personal opinion on the matter, as I thought about such a few times myself. Very shortly I might add.

I said nope, had the same situation, a brand new Mac piece hanging out in the Mac crowd, but chose to say to myself "Hey, Dummy, Leave those Amps Alone!" LOL Because "All in All, you're just bone stock 2105's!" I had 2 to play with, double the fun!

Buying both brand new, they remained "hack free" for a good 45 years.

Also, besides knobs, I understand there were a number of units that could also have End Caps swapped.

That some had both forward and backward compatibility with the caps, older-other style end caps could be swapped onto newer gear and vice versa.

I know of 3 different styles.

(PS: I'm gonna say you're gonna likely need a set of knobs for or from a Mac MC-2125)

Back in the 80's I owned a C28, 2505, and MR77 and purchased a C32. I have always displayed my units side by each and as such that C32 looked SO out of place. Rather than go backwards I ended up replacing all the knobs and end caps on the 2505 and MR77. Fortunately all these units looked beautiful, giving the amp and tuner a fresh appearance, (not unlike a 2125 & MR78). I know this was frowned upon by purists, but no regrets, it made sense that they all match. Luckily back then all these parts were available from McIntosh direct and I was able to acquire precisely what I needed.
Ironically, when I sold the C32 and 2505 to a colleague he did not want the knobs or end caps restored, he preferred the newer look better. A couple years after that I acquired an MR78 and he bought the 77 from me. Again, kept the same appearance.

I have a set of five NOS McIntosh knobs for MC2205/2200 & MC2255/2250. Knobs have "A" stamping which is correct for MC2105 shafts. I used them briefly on MC2505 but put the originals back on.

Hello Sir!

I do not now at which Feldberg you are located, there are two in Germany. Wish you Merry Christmas!
