Hello
i'am now a happy MC352 listener, here in the City sold any one a pair of MC1000 and i don't know if it's a possible Step for me? so i try to ask here any Experts!

- Yes MC1000 are older than MC352
- Also MC352 are Quad Balanced
- MC1000 have much more Soundpower, but it's this also designed to NOT hear it loud?

- it's possible the MC1000 are sounding better as me MC352?

please for any help or informations i'am happy!
Thanks and best regards

The amp design looks very similar to later and current models whatever they call it (quad balanced, double balanced etc).:

NEW DOUBLE BALANCED PUSH PULL DESIGN
The MC1000 amplifier is fully balanced from
input to speaker output. Two matched amplifiers
operate in PUSH-PULL with their outputs combined in
the "Output Autoformer". Each half of the amplifier
contains complimentary balanced circuitry. The resulting
double balanced configuration cancels virtually all
distortion. This circuit is possible ONLY with the
exclusive "MclNTOSH OUTPUT AUTOFORMER".

HIGH OUTPUT CURRENT
Greater than 160 amperes peak output current
to drive uneven speaker loads. Some poor speaker
designs have input impedances that dip to 1 or 2 ohms
at various frequencies. The MC1000 has the output
current reserve to drive them. Over 4KW output on tone
bursts.

Performance Specifications
POWER OUTPUT
1000 watts into an 8, 4 or 2 ohm load is the
minimum sine wave continuous average power output.
The output RMS voltage is:
89.4 across 8 ohms
63.2 across 4 ohms
44.7 across 2 ohms
OUTPUT LOAD IMPEDANCE
Terminals for 8, 4 and 2 ohms.
RATED POWER BAND
20Hz to 20kHz
TOTAL HARMONIC DISTORTION
0.005% maximum harmonic distortion at any
level from 250 milliwatts to rated power output.
DYNAMIC HEADROOM
2.1dB
WIDE BAND DAMPING FACTOR, 8 ohm output
200
INPUT IMPEDANCE
10,000 ohms
POWER GUARD
Clipping is prevented and THD does not exceed 2%
with up to 14dB overdrive at 1 kHz.
POWER REQUIREMENTS
120 volts, 50/60Hz, 12 amps UL/CSA.

Wow!

I heard these in a home theater set up when they first came out. They are monsters. With the right speakers playing the at low volumes should not be a problem. You will have plenty of reserve power. If you get them you better wear a hernia belt when you pick them up. They weigh 46kg. (101lb)

One potential issue is age. These amp can be up to 20 years old. If the have not been rebuilt then that would probably have to be done.

Wasn't the MC1000 was the first fully balanced amp from McIntosh? Believe the early models still had the chromed-steel chassis and later models have the polished stainless chassis. It was quite a leap from McIntosh's first solid-state monobloc amp, the MC50 to their second, the MC1000. Wonder if I,too, should think about upgrading? Am sure the MC1000 is just as good at 0.1wpc as it is as 1000wpc.

Hello Together and thanks for the Answer!

I just think that this amp is possible 20 Year old and probably the technology design
are older that this from MC352? so the MC352 have a possible better
sound stereophonic reproduction!?

my opinion, the feature from MC1000 are much Powerreserve to Play.
now i'am not sure which way i decide.

thanks and best regards

The MC1000 dates from 1992 and the MC352 from 1998. Think you are giving too much credit to the difference in time between the two amps (20yr vs. 14yr), which is not that much. Given the choice between them, I would go for the MC1000s in a microsecond (or less).

Then again, I don't think you cared much for the MC352 anyway, so its an easy choice for you.

Aside from having the bragging rights of owning such beautiful beast as the MC1000's, I'm doubting you'd hear a difference if both were operating within the comfortable power range of the 352; so unless you're needing that kind of power, I'd vote for the 352

Not sure why you think I do not care for the MC352 (other than I liked the MC500 better, even though not a balanced amp), but do agree that you would likely not hear much or any difference up to the max on the MC352.

Hello Together !

Bevor have discuss this with him honestly, even if I decide not to buy it "I'am not shure"
I made a date with this guy, yes i wan't see and hear this monster.

I want to say kudos for the helpful answers that I could get here.

Thank you all !

If you decide to go for the MC1000's, let us know how it turns out.

hmm, I was sure I read at least in a couple thread that you not only preferred other Mc amps but were actually 'disappointed' with the 352, but perhaps I have you mixed up with another member's opinion on this.

That would be my opinion on the MA6900 and MA2275, but don't recall ever feeling that way about the MC352, which I have limited experience with, having only compared indirectly with my MC500 of the time (1998-9).
