MC152... Your Thoughts

I am thinking about purchasing the MC152 amp. I have the new C52 preamp and I would like a matching McIntosh amplifier. I am not in the market for an MC252, 302, 402, or 452 amp due to lack of space (height.) Does anyone who owns the MC152 find that it has enough power? I own Opera Quinta loudspeakers. 4 ohm impedance and 89db sensitivity. I am also concerned about the high frequencies. I have heard Mac amps that sounded too smooth on top. Any owner's opinions are welcome.

A MC 152 is equivalent to anyone else 200 watt amp. And that power will give yo about 106 db of sound at your listening position, Most folks listen with an average of 85 to 90 db, so even with 10 db peeks you still have 6 db more to spare. To hear a real difference you would need at least 4 times the power maybe a pair of of 601's or the previous 602. If you want something smaller with an edge, try Crown, Krell, Thresold or Ayre. Crown makes a 5000i in the Micro Tech series that rated at 1250 watts per channel across 8 ohms. That is around 4 inches high..

I use the amplifier with my new Klipsch RF-7 MK2 speakers. Before that i had a pair of McIntosh XR50 speakers.
Both speakers sounded fabulous with the MC152
