MC2205 ribbon cable replacement

Hello there, looking for advice on where to source a new 10-pin ribbon cable connecting the power supply PCB and the lamp PCB, need to replace the original one that is deteriorating in my MC2205 amp... Thanks a lot for any recommendations!

I was able to buy a new 2205 ribbon about 10, maybe 11 years ago from factory Parts Dept. Later on they had 2205 ribbons but the price increased ~50%. I've seen threads where others have replaced the ribbon with a bundle of what looked like twisted pairs. Someone came up with replacement C32 ribbons on a limited production basis: https://www.google.com/search?q=McIntosh+C32+ribbons

Thanks Greg, appreciate your feedback. I did see the thread about the C32 ribbon cable set, still available on Ebay for $150, I just think it is probably an overkill for just a single cable. Saw in some threads that people just hard wired the boards, I imagine that is something that might work....

it is not that one would be constantly pulling out the power supply or lamp PCBs often. I plan to replace the lamps on that board with new ones and hopefully won't have to touch it for a while...
But I did reach out to Mcintosh support about the ribbon cable, will update here once they respond.

I am the developer of the FFC ribbon cable kit for the C32. The ribbon kit is not compatible with any component of the MC2205 which requires a Male to Male 10 Spiked Pin ribbon cable to connect Lamp and Power boards. These are available from Mouser at $7.24 without shipping and part number: 535-10-006-171P The original is a 4 inch but this 6 inch cable works better giving you plenty of room to bend in the tight space. The only draw back is that you have to order 20 pieces but should not be any problem unloading what you don't need for $12.00 with free shipping via Ebay. Aries will make these as a special order as they are non stocked so you will have to wait about 2-4 weeks at about $7.75 a cable with shipping. They are worth waiting for and no need to keep an extra spare as manufacturer uses updated polymers and adhesion process making the cable last another 20-30 years.

While you are at it the lamp board uses 14v lamps = 606-CM7382 and the 6.3v lamps = 606-CM7381.

I don't need any now but thanks for that info.

I recently refurbished an MC6200 and it uses a ribbon cable almost identical to the 2200's.
 
Thank you! I will check them out on Mouser. Perhaps I should check ebay, for the last guy that bought 20, and may be selling the extras....
 
Ok, I have other cables that will be manufactured by Aries under my account and I have order 20 pieces of the 10 pin Spiked Cables. I will keep you posted when they arrive.
 
I have 4 pieces remaining and these will be back up on Ebay around the 11th of Dec 2022. End of the line as I won't be ordering more pieces. The next McIntosh collector can order 20 pieces as that is the minimum order and now it is a 6-8 week wait time from Aries.
 
Ok, I think u sent me one which will get my one unit bk operational? I’ll try to remember to look on eBay in the 11th so I’ll have one spare. Switching to led bulbs so maybe the ribbon won’t get as fried from heat.
 
Richard, your cable was sent last week 1st class mail (little box) so it should be there by now. You know I did the LED thing on the MC2205 lamp board and I did not like the way the LEDs came through the milky white filter onto the green filter. As far as the Clipping incandescent lamps, they almost never come on and can be left alone. A 25 year old MC2205 probably has less than 2 hours on those clipping lamps. See how the green comes through before you assemble the faceplate. If they look good for your eyes then go or it. The 1866 to LEDs works great.
