This surly must come as welcome news to many an MC2300 owner as many of these units saw commercial use more often than not.

I wrote to the seller, this morning, asking if he had any plans to make a black MC2300 faceplate, as I've often thought that it would look great, as it does on the MC2500 & MC2600. He said that manufacturing these faceplates was more difficult than he had anticipated, that it almost took a year to complete, and that he had no interest in making any more.

I could probably make the 2300 or 2500 faceplates if there was enough interest.

Would it be blasphemy to put an all black faceplate on a silver 2300 or 2500?

Does the s/n tell which were which?

Bob

ps- where was that faceplate listed ?
I looked on eBay completed sales but didn't see it.

I toyed with the idea for years. Since Gold/Black MC2300s are as rare as hen's teeth I always wanted to reproduce them. I have actually seen ONE all black faced MC2300 so agree that would be cool as well. Or why not a polished face with black lettering? Sky is the limit!

I applaud his efforts! I still have one new one in my stash - Mc made a run of them in '98 and I snagged a few.

It wouldn't be under Completed Sales, as the guy made 10 total. A search using the term "MC2300 front panel" will get you there.

I for one would invest in a silver or black face plate for my MC2500, as the current silver one has seen better days.

Ok I found it,thanks.

I have a 2500 so I can use my faceplate as a template for the black/silver and all black ones.

I looked at the McIntosh history pages and did not see any all black faceplate 2300's.
Were some actually produced or were they all black/silver?

Bob

Can someone tell me if the MC2300 faceplate is a flat piece of metal? I am in need of a MC2200 faceplate. It looks deceptively simple but it is actually an extruded piece of aluminum with two flanges across the top and bottom for mounting onto the chassis. Without elaborate milling these flanges would have to be epoxied on using L shaped aluminum strips.

The MC2300 faceplate is flat, yes. It is unlike the MC2200 faceplate.

For years, I heard rumors of black faced MC2300s but I never saw one. Then about 5 years ago, a seller offered one for sale on eBay. Sure enough. It certainly looked like a factory supplied faceplate, but who knows for sure. Gee - sure would've been smart to save that pic I guess . . .

My MC2600s are all black but I'd be open to Polished with black lettering!

A while ago @Don Bocadill bought a few new MC2500 faceplates it would seem. I think he purchased them from Audio Classics, but I could be wrong. Don?

I'm pretty sure that they were only commercially available in two tone. The one that damacman referred to was likely a custom job.

Edit: Here's a link to a video with one. Says it's 1 of 24 made with custom black faceplate.
The camera man doesn't really make the amp the main focus, and it doesn't look all that great.

Small world, the 2500 I have now was purchased from Don 3 years ago but it's a black/silver version.

I noticed in the youtube video that the black faceplate on that 2300 was kind of dinged up but after reading that they were rescued from a fire at the Burbank Studios that explains it.

Thanks,
Bob

I glossed right over that part. Yep, that explains it!

Some water under the bridge since then but yes, I believe I purchased a NOS 2500 face from AC and some rack handles as well as NOS foil decals for the top plate
