I unpacked my new to me Mc240 today that I purchased from Wajobu who I have to say did a surperb job packing it for shipping.I connected it to my Cizek model 1 speakers and have a tweaked Hagerman Clarinet preamp and a NAD 515BEE CD.The Mc240 had the power supply cans and the doubler caps replaced by Terry D.All of the other caps are original as is the bias control board and the selenium rectifier. The output tubes are JJ 6L6's.I had been using a Mc250 SS.amp.The tube sound from the Mc240 is less forward and more relaxed than the Mc250.The midrange is very clear and nice, the highs are good and the bass is slightly on the muddy side compared to the Mc250.I am very happy that I was able to buy a Mc240 in good plus condition. From what I have read, replacing the selenium rectifier and the caps on the bias control board will tighten the bass.I have also read that replacing the bumble bee caps is mandatory.I want to replace the bumble bees with caps that will keep the Mac vintage sound.I also understand that I should not replace the black beauties...All things considered, the Mc240 sounds very good mostly unrestored.Once it is restored,I imagine it will really shine.
