MC250 vs MC502?

For driving 45 watt 8 ohm audiophile surround speakers in a system with two (direct coupled) MC 7100's. Both are 50 watt amps.
MC250 - autoformers, (no power guard), very heavy,
MC502 - power guard, (no autoformers), slimline.
Distortion: MC502<MC250.

Which to choose?

PS. Has anyone heard about problems about MC502 intermittent relays?

I haven't heard the MC502, but there's no way the MC250 could beat it... that's one of their first, if not THE first, SS amp ever, and the 502 is almost 20 years newer, technology-wise and parts-wise.

For surround speakers? I'd go with the one that fit in with the rest of your gear or room. Also, keep in mind future use/needs.

Beans, you are making a HUGE leap of faith. It is like saying that a 1970 Chevy is better than a '56 because it is newer.
