MC275 - How good is it?

The MC501 does not use 'tons of feedback'. If the MC275 had 'reverb' this would be very easy to see on a scope and/or measure so this is another nonsense statement. Salesmen often do say very odd things though.

I've heard somewhere in the range of 30dB of negative feedback? Is this not the case?
 
Whatever the number is folks will argue whether this is of some merit value.
The bottom line is do you have faith in McIntosh engineering standards? If you do, the answer is simple. McIntosh uses the amount of feed back necessary to optimize performance in the circuit they designed. Ditto for bias and all other parameters. Amplifiers that are designed with the autoformer are always unique compared to direct coupled designs and the current designs do have the autoformer in the feedback loop.

Yep, like I said, it all sounds like music to me, no matter what the amount of feedback is. My BAT amp had zero global feedback and yet I enjoy my MC501s much, much more. :music:

I enjoy watching the BAT tower windows flung open to daylight so the McIntosh exterminator can come take care of business. It's a wonderful thing. :yes:

Negativ feedback or not, Mcintosh is still number one amplification in the world too me.

I just had my MC275 MkV up on AgoN for sale, and had a buyer who lived local. I carried the boxes into my studio this morning to pack it up, and as soon as I began unplugging the balanced input cables I was immediately overcome with remorse about letting the amp go. I could not make myself put the MC275 in the box. No way. So, I plugged the cables back in, and called the buyer to apologize about my change of heart. I almost let that sweet amp slip through my fingers. Man, that was close.

How good is the MC275? It's that good! ;)

I like a story like this...and I know the feeling. It was very difficult to trade in my MC300 and MC252, even for 501's. That's the first time I've let go of a MAC piece in 35 years. And in a few instances, when I've picked up a vintage MAC piece on eBay, the sellers have shown signs of grieving. The woman who sold me my MR77 Tuner said it brought tears to her eyes. I gave her my condoloences and assured her it was going to a good home! :yes:

How I understand you :D. I feel the same about 80% of my audio gear and 100% of my McIntosh gear.
 
I had the MC275 MKV tubes glowing again tonight down in my studio. Man that amp sounds so good through those JBL LSR6332 Pro monitiors. I'm so happy I came to my senses before I let that amp go.
 
Good God, why would anyone doubt the merits of the 275? This amp has been making people happy for almost half a century, its engineering is as solid as Gibralter, and it just gets better with each version. I have two 501's and want a 275 to drive the high side of my speaks. I can't wait. Either buy one or don't, but a debate is useless, its a great amp.
 
.... and now for a slight deviation, how do you compare the MC275 with a pair of MC-30 which I'm currently using ?

I had been out of the audio loop in a really long time. I went to listen to Rouge Audio that a dealer was selling. I really liked the sound, but it was so noisy. The dealer told me all tubes were like that. :scratch2: Then I remembered Mcintosh.
