MC30 Monoblocks - Speaker reccos

ZeroFks

Aural Audio
Hi AK, I'm pretty new to this world but have been diving in head first. I've got a 2100 paired with a C28 and Vienna Acoustics Bach Grands that I'm absolutely loving. I've recently come across MC30 monoblocks that it looks like I can purchase at a price that makes sense to fully restore them (chassis, decals, transformer housing repaint, retube). The dilemma then becomes: What speakers will do them justice?
(preferably under 2K on the used market)

And while you're at it... How about Preamp thoughts. C24, C29?

Thanks for the help gang!

Tannoy speakers are always good with Mc. Their bigger 12 and 15 inch dual concentric woofer models would do well. I think your c28 is better than the c24. I would say go all tube and look for an mx110 to run the mc30s.

Historically I would say Altec Carmels, Klipsch Corner Horns, JBL Paragon or Harkness, EV Georgian or early Patrician, for something smaller the EV-6. As mentioned the Big Tannoy coax or Altec 604E or later, For smaller rooms Bozak Symphony, for really small rooms and AR-3 or 2ax or 3a. I had MC 60's and I really enjoyed them, but they aren't as well loved as the mighty mouse of Mcintosh the MC 30. Todays speakers: just make sure they are close to 100 db 1 meter 1 watt. That's will cut the wheat from the chaff. Klipsch Cornwalls, maybe Forte III, or if you can find them a Pair of Klipsch Belles II. There was a big JBL corner horn that started out as a 2-way and near the end of production the 075 super tweeter was added, but I can't remember the name. It was mighty impressive with a MC 30 when I heard the two together in a mono system.

I run Altec's on my MC40's, actually they are HeathKit AS101's, same driver load as an Altec Valencia but in a nicer cabinet. Tubes and horns are a match made in Heaven.

Thanks guys! Any thoughts on Quartets with Crites crossovers and titanium tweeter diaphragms? I picked up a pair and got the parts from Crites, but haven't rebuilt them yet. Tearing them down this weekend to refinish the cabinets and change the grill cloth to something a little funkier. The MC30's should be ready to go by next weekend.

Also restoring a pair of RSII's (recapped, refoamed, replaced the dust caps, sanded them down to bare wood and Aniline Dyed them red). Should be ready for reassembly by Sunday night. Going to run them with a pair of MC2100's monoblocked and a C28. Worthy?

(And... GO BLUE vinoman)
