MC30 serial number

FXPT-109

According to some sources, one can date their McIntosh MC30 amp based on the following serial numbers:

Serial# 10,000 July 1954 to 23655 April 1958
Serial# 1E001 March 1958 to 10E592 June 1962

All well and good, except the serial number on my MC30 is A811200. Does that mean I have a fake MC30? Or, does it mean mine is a model with the variable damping that has a different set of serial numbers? Or is there a set of MC30s that just didn't fall into the normal range of serial numbers?

I did an extensive internet search, and there is no mention of serial numbers consistent with what is on my MC30.

If anyone knows, please let me know!

any pics of of ypur amp with the variable damping control and serial number?

OK, I have a related (perhaps) question. Next to the serial number, it says the MC30 was manufactured in Toronto, Canada, by McCurdy Radio under license from McIntosh. Could THAT be the reason why the serial numbers don't match those that have been listed for the MC30? And, before I start crying over my MC30, does anyone know if the Canadian-made MC30s were on par with the Binghamton, NY-made MC30s? Man-o-man I hope I didn't get a sub-par set of MC30s...

PS: I did an internet search to see whether people have questioned or otherwise addressed the "made in Canada" question. There is so little out there. Were many MC30s made in Canada? Nobody talks about it.

PPS: I wouldn't know how to find a variable damping control if it fell on my head...

It would be a knob marked "Damping control" on the front panel, most likely.

Thanks. I think the variable damping control is the least of my worries at the moment -- my Canadian MC30s sure got me worried...

It would be a pot on the front or back of the amp.please post a picture of ypur amp front and back and sides.

no need to worry about that .there were mc 30 's that were available up here in canada where they were were mfg and sold by mcintosh under liscence to mccurdy..mcintosh even licensed their gear to grason stadler .

Here are some photos. I guess you're not sure about the Canada question... but thanks for your help with the damping question!

Yeah, I've gotten over the counterfeit, thanks. I'm almost convinced the Canadian models were equal to the US models based on reply from radioactive. I hope that is indeed the case. After all my reading and yearning and saving up money to purchase, I want the MC30 in all its original intended glory.

Mac provided special order amps on request, it's highly unlikely this is a counterfeit.
look up a grason stadler 162k made specifically for the heairng aid company by mcintosh. i had one and there were even 2 diffent versions made. ill find some pictures of mine tommorow and post them

I have a hard time imagining an officially licensed McIntosh product being sub-par just because it was made somewhere else. That would be too damaging to the brand to allow such a thing.
