MC300 Output Terminal Block Question

I feel foolish asking this question. What is the proper way to connect a wire to these terminals? The horizontal facing screw is very short with some slop. Hard to put a wire around it without it being close to falling out. What is the purpose of the movable vertical slug above the screw? There are no details in the owner's manual.

Back the screw out, remove the slug, put in the bare copper wire tighten screw.

Make sure to put the pulled slugs in a safe place.

These terminal blocks were advertised to be easy to connect to speaker wire up to 4 AWG in size! The design permits bare wire as well as wire with fork terminals (slid under the head of the screw). New, the amps were also equipped with allen set screws to be used in place of the screws with heads when tightening into bare wire and not using forks.

I'm a banana guy and these don't permit bananas. I took socket cap screws of the same size and drilled them out from the head down the shaft with a #20 drill bit. I screwed these into the blocks of my MC2600s and then wallah - banana compatibility. Presently, I'm using 8 AWG with the single locking bananas. Works perfectly and is much more maintenance friendly than having to rely on bare wire connections held in place with set screws.
