MC452...TALK ME OUT OF IT (YOU HAD 1 JOB AND YOU FAILED!!)

Now that that's settled it's time to be monoblock symmetrical. Forget the 452 you have a pair of speakers so why not a pair of amps? Better separation, less crosstalk, shorter interconnects.......the list goes on:)

Amp choices are of course limitless. I remember my buddy Any Homeyer in NM telling me the parts inside McIntosh are all coming from China.

Some people love Rack Handles on Amps-etc. Like you're in some freaking Red October Nuclear Sub

And everybody and their brother has done rack handles to death.

Carver, Mac, Accuphase, Krell, Levinson, Bryston, it would take 3 months to read through all there were in our Audio Hstory.

Ivan over at Aficionado in fact back in time was putting together some retro-fit kits for a good number of other McIntosh Models (Amps-Pre-Amps-etc) that never came stock with Rack Handles. He commissioned some NASA-Grade shop to clone the Handles. I seen quite a few pics, they were drop dead gorgeous! The end results did look very nice IMO.

I believe the MC-352 was one that could have this Rack Handle Upgrade.

Speaking of Subs, (no not the kind you eat), wasn't a particular Mac Amp in use in US Subs? MC-2600?
1.21 Gigawatts LOL

Here's another very cool Mac Amp, that gets little press and is nobody's "chump", the 352's bigger brother, the MC-402. Looks like a sweet easy fit on most everyday Racks that can handle its weight
You'll likely read a lot good things. (We Cool!) LOL

Yes; the handles on some of the preamps really were a work of art weren't they. I ended up with a couple pair of his handles for my 1201's when he was doing them years ago. They are excellent quality and much more attractive than the small stock handles.

Grab MC-452 and MC-601's as soon as you can. McIntosh just had a 15% (roughly) price increase June 1st. Rising new prices eventually mean rising used prices for a product like McIntosh that has such a long lifespan.

There's a MC462 for sale for $5k but it's half way across the US. I've been told that was the employee price on the BB blowouts. I'm hoping there's more.
If by BB you mean Best Buy, the floor models I have seen at several different Magnolia Stores (inside Best Buy stores) were not well treated.
Such a low number might mean rough treatment.

Imho, not correct.
IME, the sweet spot for purchasing used Mcintosh is 50% off retail. The bumps won't affect used equipment for quite some time. Also, the demographic of Mc users is old and getting older. Not that many people and getting even less. The byproduct of a luxury brand. Plenty of time to buy.

You're talking about floor models. I was referring to employee purchases. There's a reason so many current models are for sale on hifishark. Employees buying to flip. Well, not so many people to buy

I find that difficult to believe that encompasses all the units. There are a disproportionate number of Mcintosh flippers of new equipment out there. Just look at hifishark.
Now, I'm not advising these are pristine pieces of equipment or that these are reputable sellers. Buyer beware. But for the right price, for me, the risk is built in. If I can pick up a mc462 for $5k, I'm willing to pay for a repair or no warranty. Everyone is different.

You came HERE!?? to get talked out of an audio purchase!:rflmao:

Personally, I think you might need another one so you can bi-amp. Also, maybe an MC-30 for a center channel for those sweet sounds of female jazz vocalists. And also a......

Monoblocks!

(more seriously, that sucks to find a better bargain after completing your purchase)
