MC754 driver board question

Hi,

I just joined Audiokarma and I am hoping someone can help me identify the driver board in a MacIntosh 754 I just acquired. Given its age, I opened it up to see what condition the components were in. I compared the driver board with with the component layout shown in the service manual and they are not the same. So I am hoping someone can help me figure out what this thing actually is.

Was there a driver board update at some point? Is this board even a McIntosh board? Thanks in advance!

Interesting... the driver board in the graphic is identical to the one in the 4300V receiver. Can't help you with ID on the board in the photo though.
 
Hi

I believe that's an MC752 driver you'e got there. I just had one in the shop, layout matches the MC752 driver, and the two bottom firing connectors are the big tipoff. Can you see a part number stamped on there anywhere?

Guessing somebody replaced the heatsinks/drivers in your MC754 w/ MC752 parts. Or maybe this is an early 754 using leftover 752 parts? Those two amps have the same specs I think, so maybe the drivers are interchangeable.

Thanks for the responses. Definitely interesting info. I actually managed to speak today with the tech who resuscitated the amp. He said he tried to rebuild the 754 boards but he could not get them to work for some reason. He sent me pics and the boards themselves look to be in good shape. He posted them to me today. He also said the boards in the amp now he got from a McIntosh MA6200. I found a couple pics of a MA6200 that show the driver boards and they look exactly the same as what is in my amp. Maybe the 752 and the 6200 use the same drivers?

In any case, I may refurbish the original 754 boards when I get them. It would be a fun project. I will check back in here for some advice if/when I get around to it.
