mcd-201 firmware updates

My mcd-201 serial#1454 has had backend frimware v.5 and v.6 updated. I have also done front end updates v1.2, v.3, v.4, and v.5. I have trouble with sacd pink floyed dark side of the moon saying no disc. I have also had trouble with cds skipping. My dealer is going to replace my player when the new transport comes out. I think the current transport is made by raymedia. My dealer changed out the transport with modified one from mcintosh. I still had problems with discs. Has anybody done this many firmware updates or changed out the transport with good results. I enjoy the sound of the mcd-201 when it is working properly. My dealer told me it will take about six weeks to get a new mcd-201. It will be worth the wait. :music:

DSOM should play. If it is the hybrid SACD 2 and multi-channel it is a challenge. V.5 is the final front end firmware. The only transport change is to ROHS compliance (lead free). The design will remain the same.

Let us know when the replacement machine arrives on the floyd disk.

Thanks,
Ron

Conventional wisdom says "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but would it make the player more reliable if it was updated to the V5 front end even if it runs pretty fine? (my new replacement only freezed once since I have it).

Thanks ron

p.s. my previous player had problems, but never with the DSOM SACD. Can you try your disc in another SACD player?

I have not known of a V5 download causing any problems. If your machine is playing disks well this means the laser is focusing properly. You can not make it focus more properly though.

Thanks,

ron-c, I will post how the new machine does with dark side of the moon as well as other sacds and cds. My dealer said it will take mcintosh about six weeks to build a new machine. I should get it around mid November.

I have played that P.F. DSOM SACD over a dozen times now with my 201 and have never noticed anything abnormal.

I need help, Bump an old post!
I have a brand new mcd 201 that needs the firmware update CD.
Chuck at McIntosh has not been able to find any so far.
Does anyone have the update disk that I can borrow or buy?
This was bought by grandma new and only played about 1 of 10 disks so it got put in the closet and forgotten about :-(
Thanks for any help or direction!!
