MCD-7000 questions (rant warning)

I drank what?!?
Picked up an MCD-7000 from the infamous auction site. The bad and rant. Seller has no clue how to pack or ship and it arrived with the glass face broken and a side trim piece (trim is fine but one of the mounting screws snapped off, will be a PITA to fix.) The good news is despite the poor packing it does work fine. I'm in discussion with the seller on options to make everyone happy. if I send it back it would most likely end up in a dumpster and I obviously don't want that. My questions:

1. Anyone know if the glass is still available? May have a line on a non working unit but unknown if they are willing to part it out or if its still available (email not returned yet.)

2. What wooden cabinet(s) will this fit in?

When I buy McIntosh stuff from an seller than has no clue, I tell them that I will send them a shipping carton. They are to place the unit inside both cartons, seal it and ship it.

If I have to, I will call McIntosh and purchase new shipping cartons. They will make new cartons for almost anything they ever made.

Thanks. I did find the face after I posted this thread. I've got an email in to see how many he has (website says 3 but I don't know how up to date that is. I'd imagine he has a few) and what case. The fun part now is to fight with the seller and see how much he'll chip in for a new one. Basically I'm trying to see if he'll give a partial refund to cover the damage. If I return it which I have the option to do, it would most likely end up in a dumpster and I don't want that either.
 
I'm pleased to say (and quite surprised) that the seller agreed to refund the full price of the replacement glass. :banana: I was expecting him to offer part of it, maybe $75-$100. I saw that Tom Manley has some listed on his site, but he's out til the 14th so I can't order one til then. It can wait til then. Been hesitant to call McIntosh as I've heard they are in chaos since being sold to Sumiko and my local dealer hasn't been able to get any parts from them recently.

Overall I'm impressed with the sound. After reading some reviews and how people think of them as inferior to newer models like the 7008, I'm happy with it. More detailed than many of the cd players I have. I'd day its right on par with a Kyocera 610 I have, when it works (its very flakey and has a weak laser.) The Kyocera was my fave cd player until this one came along.

Updated? What gets updated? That sounds interesting and might be worth pursuing. Sounds beyond my feebile skills though (I'm not a tech by any means.)
 
I started a thread many months ago ( with pictures and everything) highlightng the updating of 2 MCD7000s and a MCD7005. Still trying new things with them and loaning them out to long term clients for their input.
