MCD 7009 Help

I recently inherited my uncles stereo and am new to the audiophile world since all this is way nicer than I could afford. He passed away about 15 years ago and the cd player stopped opening about 10 years ago. My aunt just played the same cd for the last 10 years and when she moved she wanted to take it with her for sentimental reasons. So my dad pried open the cd player and gave her the cd. Went to the local music store to get it repaired and they told me the tray drive gear is stripped and they can't find a replacement to get it working again. McIntosh also told me they no longer sell this part. I know how much my uncle loved his stereo so I don't want to just replace the unit. I am not really sure if I have any options to get this working again so any advice would be appreciated.

You had said you needed a picture of it with the tray open but I can't get it open. I am hoping to be able to bring it in this weekend to see if they can open it for me and remove the part.
