Mcintosh 1700 Jax, FL

Mac 1700 receiver on CL in Jax FL. Ad says the receiver has been fully restored but the owner says just the bulbs and dial glass have been replaced. He is asking 375$ for it.

I did some research online and it looks like most functional examples sell for more. My question is this a good first Mac to own? I have been curious about them for a while but they are never local to me.

Personally I would rather not have the hybrid tube and SS unit. Either all SS or all tube would be fine with me.

Interesting. And good eye. Yeah now that I look closer at the picture I see it says "MR 73 Tuner" on the glass.

I sold my 1700 last night, the tuner sections on these sound very good. I am not a fan of Mac solid state gear sound wise but this did sound pretty good for the 40 watts it has.

Did you buy it? if you did pm me as I can help with a OE style glass.

I did not end up buying it. I just don't trust the seller. And I am not knowledgeable enough about Mac gear to know what all is wrong with it.

I am tempted to look at some newer Mac gear. I don't mind the lower wattage gear. I am running super efficient speakers.

Agreed. "Fully serviced" but no mention of the tuner glass being wrong makes me worry about the quality of the "servicing". Not saying it's a dud, but does raise questions.
