McIntosh 2105 + Vincent PHO 700... Will it work?

Hi there,

I'm pondering buying the Vincent pre amp to go along with my McIntosh 2105... I'm fairly new to all this though, so wondering how these two will play together? Is this a workable combination? Is a pre amp overkill on a McIntosh amp do you think?

What might be a nice floor standing speaker to pair with them? Happy to buy new or vintage!

Many thanks!

Even though the 2105 has gain controls, it is still basically just a power amp. The preamp, whether it has tone controls or not, is used to connect all your sources to such as the tuner, tape deck, CD player, phone, phono, etc.

Some purest's like to omit the preamp altogether and just use a source switch box and gain controls on the amp only. Your choice.

EDIT: Looking at pics of the Vincent, it looks like it is strictly just a phono preamp. Looks kind of overkill for phono use only.
