McIntosh 4100 Receiver

Hi there,

What is a "fair" price for a fully functional McIntosh 4100 Receiver? It may not be a true McI classic, but I think it's a nice looking receiver (though one of those beautiful big blue meter amps wouldn't be half-bad either...but I'm sure that those would be forever out of my reach  ).

Thanks in advance.

I found a check out and guaranteed one at Terry's site for 1400. so I would not pay more than half that on ebay. There was one on my clist for 400. 6 mos ago, I did not call on it. There are McMeters on agon for 525 obo.

If you find one for under $500 - be prepared to spend some money to bring it back up to speed. I own a 1900 and 4100 and love them both. I did, however, send both to Terry for a tune up. Unless you buy one that already has been serviced, I would highly recommend sending in for testing. Once done, you'll have TOTL receiver that you can enjoy for many years.

My brother-in-law has had one since the mid-70s, but he hasn't used it in years. I'll be seeing him at Thanksgiving and I'll see what I can do about relieving him of the chore of storing it. ;)
I always liked the way it looked (and sounded), but I could never understand why it was covered in rather cheap looking wood grain vinyl instead of real wood veneer. I mean, for the kind of money he spent, you would think real wood would be standard issue. :sigh:

Thanks guys, and yes, I would second the comment about the vinyl veneer.

Apologies mods: I posted originally in McIntosh, but now I see it's in D&S.
