I think I should have worded my question differently in my other thread about rebuilding or re-capping a McIntosh C11 pre amp. I couldn't change the title of the old thread, so I am starting a new one.
I am seeking advice, a BOM/description of parts, or suggested types of capacitors and/or resistors, etc for rebuilding a C11 Pre-amplifier. I am willing to source the parts myself. The C11 rebuild kits I have seen on ebay seem to use the same grade components that I would use in a guitar amplifier, function over fidelity (please correct me if I am wrong). I love my old Fender guitar amps, but I don't play records through them.
I am looking for function AND fidelity.
Several years ago, when I rebuilt my MC30 amps, I asked this forum the same question about them and was advised that, certain carbon comp resisters should be replaced with metal film, Russian PIO caps were suggested for replacing certain audio critical components, certain parts needed to be replaced with a higher power rating than the original parts, etc. In other words, a mixture of types and grades of components for best results. This is the kind of advice I am seeking for rebuilding the C11. The unit in question is currently working, although it does have a low level buzz that is slightly audible between songs when playing a CD.
I have built and repaired many tube guitar amplifiers over the years and do know which end of a soldering iron to hold.
I do not want to hamper the abilities of this fine pre-amp by using sub standard replacement parts, and I cannot afford $$$$ to send it off for a professional restoration at this time.
Any help would be appreciated
