Mcintosh c26 - Left Channel Cuts out

Hi all,

I have a Mcintosh C26 which was recently serviced within the last 2 years. The left channel sporadically cuts out. It can be fixed by picking up the front of the unit and putting it back down. Almost seems like something could be lose? Anyone have any experience or ideas of what could be causing this issue?

Check cable connections at rear of C26 to MC2205 power amp. Could be a loose center on an output socket.
Do NOT unplug these with power amp energized!

I have a C26 where the left channel drops in volume, then I turn the loudness knob and it comes back. I checked the connections and they are fine, it's probably the carbon tract on the pot that's wearing out at the flat point. You could try this to see if it's the problem on your unit.

Pre-amps from that period, C-28 and C-26, had alignment issues with the mode selector switch and the input selector switch. Plus the tape monitor switch were apt to need cleaning at least twice a year. So open the unit top and bottom and take off the front face plate and clean all the switches. volume control, tone controls anything else that has been neglected over the years. Balance control, too, for instance. If the controls have extension shafts make sure the wipers of the switches are centered properly on the wafers of the switches while your at it. . Tighten the barrels on the RCA panel connectors also. Check to make sure the RCA receptacles are still tight physically to the rear chassis also. Thats a big problem with the more complex C-28, also.
