That's a little high for me. If a wood case was included, I would go up to $650-700, but not higher. There are a couple of C28 on CL around here and no one's buying....

The "McIntosh light kit professionally installed" makes me laugh, but it sounds like it's been largely unrestored and any recent service was not by a certified McIntosh dealer.

However, I do understand (and agree with) what the striped mule says, having desirable gear I can drive to, see, touch, and hear is worth something. If I show up and like it, the seller isn't too far from what it's worth, we could probably come to an agreement. If I had to have it shipped it is risky and expensive.

The caveat with the C28 however is whether it has had all of the ground/drain crimps soldered/serviced, if not there's a fairly labor-intensive task necessary to make it work properly.

If it has the walnut case, $800 for a clean unit with new bulbs, is definitely a fair price.

Yes, but he says "rare piece of audio history" at least 6 times in the description, ... so $2k is a bargain. Judging from the condition of the connectors on the back of the unit it has probably never been serviced, and yes that glass needs to be replaced.

To the OP: If you're buying a C28 or other period McIntosh be sure that the volume pot tracks well, they do wear out. Deoxit doesn't help (and might do damage from what some say).
