These lamps are REALLY Cool! Literally. If you own vintage McIntosh equipment you know that the panel illuminating lamps generate quite a bit of heat. This heat from the lamps is one of the reasons that the black paint on the back side, bubbles or de-laminates. The LED Lamps produce virtually no heat and last up to hundreds of times longer than the originals. These are direct replacements, which means there are no modifications necessary, just pop them in and you're ready to go. They light up green and you would be hard pressed to see any difference in intensity from the original, when they are installed. Please note these LED’s are to replace the original #1866 (6.3v) and the #1864 (28v) panel lamps only. Please note: at the end of the auction you must let us know which type of lamp that you are replacing.The price is for one lamp.


I have a MC352, MC2505, and C26 that needs new bulbs. My concerns with LEDs are the direct light (spot) unlike regular bulbs. What do you guys think?

I would have the same concern but I think that there is already something to diffuse the light (a light bulb is not as direct as a led but it still would be obvious).

Spendy LEDs

There is a supplier for these things on the net and I can't remember the URL. They want $12 each (!). I don't care if they make you ten inches longer, I'm not paying that much for an f'ing lightbulb. How much are these ones?

I have seen www.Mouser.com sells them cheaper. I been wondering about what shown on e-bay in the past as Mouser doesn't have white. Now that someone mention this glow green to begin with, it is easy than.

BTW, I'll pay a lot more for 10 inch extension:D

Firstly, these bulbs will not work in all old Mac gear and in all the spots for bulbs. The ones pictured appear to be a 'bayonet' base, which was a common way for many old tube amps to have panel lighting. Be careful where these are used. The voltage and current draw specs must be well matched, IMHO. The amount of technical info on the ones on eBay lead me away from attempting to use them - much less the $$ asked for.

To answer this question: No, the eBay auction bulbs will not work in a C2200. The C2200 does not use 'bayonet' based bulbs.

I did the Audio classics LED upgrade on my C2200 a few years ago. I'm very happy with it. It came with good instructions and was easy to do.
 
I'm upgrading all the bulbs to LED's on my MC7270. They should arrive next week and I'll let you know the results.
 
I made my own bulbs for the C22 and MR67. I picked from a variety of white, cool white and warm white leds to get what I wanted.

The blue is more noticeable in the pictures than in real life.

Sounds dumb but what is the basic layout of AC LEDs? Is there a diode, etc?
