Mcintosh Ma-6100 Left Output Amp issue!

Hi Everyone , I have an issue with my Mcintosh MA-6100 . The problem is the left channel speaker woofer at mid to higher volume levels Wobbles,rumbles,pulses like a Turntable rumble but the source is a hi level AUX input. I took the output from the 6100 and pluged it into a seperate Amp input ,and the speaker works as it should.I did troubleshoot it dowm to the mc 6100's Left channel power output board. Has anyone run across this issue? I only have a multimeter no other test equipment. Any info is appreciated. Thank You, Ludman

We have a McIntosh forum here. Post your question there, or have the moderator of this forum move it there for you. You'll get better help there. Do bear in mind, these units don't like power cables touching audio cables. They also don't like speaker cable heavier gauge than lamp cord. I wish you success getting yours back to health. I have enjoyed mine.

You've already swapped the boards and the issue moved along with the one bad board, but have you tried cleaning the connector / reseating a number of times? It's possible it's just dirty.

You can do a lot of debug with your multimeter since you have a good and bad board. Suggest you use your multimeter to compare resistors from working driver to non-working driver, same for the transistors if your multimeter has a diode test function, and ideally with capacitors as well. I've seen shorted capacitors, open resistors, bad transistors on these drivers. I can't tell you specifically which part might cause your symptoms, but if you can do the comparison ideally you'll find the parts that don't match, and can fix it from there.
 
Thanks for the info Bob! That is my thought process too, I was hoping someone else has experenced the same issue and I did not have to go through that board compairason. Thanks again . Ernie Ludman
