Hey All,

What say you all about the preamp section on the MA-6100?

Been toying with the thought of picking up a preamp to use with the McIntosh's power amp. Or vice-versa, picking up a power amp to use with the Mc's pre.

The Mc in very nice to listen to, there is no lack of power, but it seems to be missing some dynamics, especially near the top end of the spectrum. I notcie this especially when I listen to my Luxman system, which seems to have a much more dynamic sound.

As a side question, what about Rotel as a pre? General observation is that I've never listened to a Rotel piece that I haven't liked, including an RC-1570 pre that almost got me to pry my wallet open at the dealer.

I have owned many McIntosh pieces over the years. They are all very attractive pieces, but as my speakers were upgraded, I heard exactly what you expressed. I have no idea what speakers, room or type of music you listen to.
I also don't available in your area. Do some research on the Nakamichi SR 4a they can be cheap here in New York about $75 to $100. They have their problems, and they are not a status piece, but you will not believe how pure their sound is!
 
Solved my problem - changed the speakers. Set of Monitor Audio Silver RX series totally opened up the top end. The Wharfedales are a very nice warm sounding speaker, but apparently too warm for the Mc.
