mcintosh ma6600 for B&W804 D3?

Hi friends, I have B & W 804 D3 speakers, and I'm running them right now with vincent sv-237 integrated amp. I found a vendor of McIntosh MA6600 Integrated, and wanted to know if I would get an improvement in the result.

The 804 is difficult to move. The MA6600 alone with enough power to propel them on the low end?

How is the combination? Would appreciate help.

Daniel_m.... I think I'm in the same boat as you were... except I have the 802 S3... very difficult to drive well with my MA6600. It drives ok but doesn't shine, and I can hear the narrowed soundstage and bass doesn't hit the way I'd expect. For classical and some Jazz (smoother bass) it's fine but any pop with heavier and sharper bass notes the gear shows it's not working in harmony. If you never listen to pop or more synthetic instruments you many not be so affected.

Anyway, I write because I'd like to see how you're doing on your gear match journey.

Well whether you believe it or not I believe that you're hearing what John Bowers intended his speakers to sound like......if you don't like his interpretation it is no big deal, there are thousands who do and did.

From the little cns has posted I do believe his current taste and expectations lean heavily towards what we always called the west coast sound exemplified by JBL and Cerwin Vega and some other companies that followed their lead no matter where they were physically built.

As to Botrytis, his tag line admits to his sacrificing the bottom two octaves. That is his choice. I would guess that many of his hoarded small speakers have a intentional manipulated upper bass bump up to simulate deep bass as exemplified by the BBC monitors. Again a designed in speaker flavor.
