McIntosh MAC4280 Rotary "Record" Switch pt# 310172 or SRRZR4 Needed :^)

I've nothing but praise for my mid-80s McIntosh MAC4280 and am content with its competent sound - until it broke. The rotary "Record" switch (pt# 310172 or SRRZR4 in the service manual) decided to mechanically fail and now spins freely without selecting an input. If anyone has a suggestion on how to make it work or substitutions, I'd like to know. It's a six-position stereo selector rotary switch. Many thanks to anyone who has one or a parts board! I'm an irregular here, but I'll check back.

Might be worth giving McIntosh parts department a call. Sometimes they'll have a part in stock you'd never expect.

They were my first call, I talked to Chuck in Engineering, the same fellow who gave me tour of the facility in 2011. Said they hadn't stocked those parts in many years. That was sad as I also need a remote control, or at minimum need to borrow one as the codes are not in the Harmony database.

Following your indications , this switch look like "slide switch"
The definition is not enough clear in my point of view , can you post a picture (Mcintosh do not produce this of parts so another manufacturer may use it in another unit )

You are korrekt it IS a linear switch. I fully expected a disintegrated rotary switch when I opened the unit to research but lo & behold there's a 20" shaft through the unit that terminates with a set screw into a linear switch - and the set screw was loose. Huzzah!
