McIntosh MAC6700 Stereo Receiver - Advice from owners...

Call out to all McIntosh MAC6700 owners...

I auditioned one of these and was very impressed. I like the build quality (built to last a lifetime), look, connection options and most of all the sound. Mind you, I was not too crazy about the McIntosh remote as it looks like a dated TV remote.

For all MAC6700 owners/users, are you still happy with your purchase?

Any regrets or issues?

What speakers are you using with the MAC6700?

So no MAC6700 owners on this forum????
I haven't seen anyone with one but some members chime in only when it relates to what they have. I also think the main draw to mac is separates and a few integrates. Listening to AM FM is not high on the list for sound quality.

Let me ask you this because everything you said you like about it is found on all mac gear. What's the draw for you on this unit?

If I were going to have a totally separate system for the library or for her quilting/sewing/activity room, a 6700 would be my first consideration. Its flexible, has great sound and the ability to recieve HD radio. But knowing my better half she would probably be using one of the 800 channels off direct TV as she does now using her satellite receiver as a source to my C-34 which feeds a 2505 for the remote speakers in the house. The only conflict comes if I want to listen to an LP. Other wise I use my 861 to play thru my MX-120 for the sound room.

We will be moving to a smaller house or condo so I'm looking at downsizing my system but still want great sounding gear.

I'm looking for an all-in-one integrated amp with high-quality built-in phono stage (MM & MC) and DAC. The FM tuner is a bonus since I still like listening to radio as background music and in my area we still have really good FM stations for Rock, Jazz and Classical. I have no interest in a built-in equalizer plus I need a second variable output (analog RCA) connection to support my powered wireless Dynaudio XEO speakers that I use in the kitchen (living will be using ProAc Response D30R speakers).

The MAC6700 seems to be a great choice for the asking price and I've auditioned it for about 2 hours and was impressed. Next step would be to audition it at home.

The only thing that I can't understand is even thought their products are extremely well built & look like they would last a lifetime, so many people who call themselves "audiophiles" seem to not take McIntosh seriously and are quick to dismiss their products. Why is that?

Plus, for a product that's supposedly been around since 1993, how come I cannot find any reviews on the MAC6700?

A member here who hasn't posted in a while claims to have loved his MA6600 which is basically the same thing without the TM2 tuner module.

As to the other part of your question - there are probably any number of reasons why some are dismissive of Mc. The single most obvious reason - or so it appears to me - is McIntosh's longstanding reputation as one of the premiere manufacturers in the hi end field making McIntosh a natural target.

Whatever the case may or may not be, I usually make my own decisions and I'm not generally not too concerned with what others say or think because no matter what, there will always be those that disagree with anything you do.

There is an old thread on this forum a year back or so where it seemed like many people on here were generally agreeing the MAC6700 was the best value Mc product...

also if I had a little more room in my RV hifi cabinet I-d pull out my NAD L73 and stick in a 6700 and a 891. Good stereo, 2.1 is better than so so 5.1 any time.

I purchased a MAC6700 from Audio Classics this past summer. I have had no negative issues, so I am very pleased with my purchase overall. You will need to ensure you have an appropriate place to put the unit as it is very large and heavy.

The MAC6700 has only been around for 2 or 3 years. The year 1993 mentioned on the McIntosh website is the last year they produced a receiver prior to the MAC6700.

You're right that there is not a lot of info on the MAC6700 but there have been a few owner reviews and comments on AK and that other McIntosh forum. Try a search on the MA6700 or MA7900; other than the tuner section in the MAC6700, the build quality, functionality, DAC, power and sound are essentially identical.

Well I just recv'd my Mac6700 2 weeks ago after trading up from my 1998 Mac4300v. I love them both and wanted to splurge! What a beaut! Only takes a few watts to power my Belle Klipsch spkrs. 64 now and my family will inherit this babe.

I've got an MA5200 integrated amp which I love -- but now investigating a trade up to MAC6700 - mainly for the HD tuner capability. We've got a good classical HD service locally. The MA5200 was my first McIntosh product. It was an upgrade from a Yamaha A-S2000 amp. I can only say, "why did I wait so long."

I have owned my MAC6700 for a year now. I traded in a Rotel RC1550 and a RB1582 towards the unit. I use it with a MCT450 transport and D150 digital DAC/preamp. This combination of Mc quality is very resounding and detailed. I must admit I rarely use the tuner function.

The MAC6700 no longer comes with the HD tuner. When I bought mine it came with the standard tuner card, I complained to my reseller, they took the HD card out of their store demo and traded cards with me.

You may find that some people get their noses out of joint when comparing an integrated amp to separate components.

Well I've had my MAC6700 since June/2016 and I'm really enjoying it!

It has brought out the best from all my sources and is an absolute beauty to look at. The tuner is a bonus, which I've used on several occasions for background music while resting, reading, cooking, etc. I'm blest to have some really nice FM stations in my area (Rock, Classical & Jazz).

I have no regret & will keep the MAC6700 for a long time to come! I'm very pleased with my purchase! :):rockon:
