Someone looking for a good NEW tube amp today, eventually compares prices to a vintage McIntosh tube amp along the way and the tube gear seems like a great deal - even at today's elevated prices! Certainly, the old Mc tube gear does not embarrass itself ... so that's driven prices up. It's collectible, looks nice, and there is a whole support community to get your amp back up to snuff. For $2K today ... what are you going to pick up new ... some Chinese gear from a company that will disappear next year?

So that has driven prices up more than anything. There is no shortage of SS gear, but harder to find good & reasonably priced tube amps from American companies ... if that is what you are looking for.
