McIntosh MC-60 sound versus 2100

I currently have a C-30, MC-2100, and MC-2505, all of which I am really very with.

Recently a single MC-60 has become available locally. What are people's general opinion of the MC-60? There doesn't seem to be as much info about this model as there are about other McIntosh tube amps?

Obviously I'd be purchasing this one MC-60 now with the hopes of stumbling across another at some point in the future. Are the MC-60's less common than other vintage McIntosh tube amplifiers? Would there be a significant difference in sound compared to the 2100 and 2505 that I already have?

There are many MC60s out there, you should not have much of a problem finding another one to match the one you found. There were 13250 MC60s made from August 1955-August 1961. The MC60 is less common than the MC30 which I think had 23246 units made.

I have a print out that goes up to 1989. I'm assuming it is accurate.

If you like the sound of a MC30 you will like the MC60, a 60 is a 30 on steroids.

Thanks Terry. I've never heard a 30, but I've read that they seem to be almost universally well-liked.

Is there a big difference in sound between the tube amplifiers compared to the early solid state units?

There is a fully restored MC 60 available in my area...let me know if you need more info.

The fist of the SS amps MC250..... were voiced to sound like the MC240, the sound is very good if they have been gone over, if mostly original the tube ones will be a bit flabby and uncontrolled in the bass.

Thanks Terry. I'll have to get my 2100 and 2505 tuned up at some point, so that I know what they are supposed to sound like (they sound great now).
